DESCRIPTION
OxB Biocide is a new "super oxidant" technology
developed and patented by scientists at Louisiana State University Agricultural Center.
This technology takes advantage of the anti-microbial
oxidative/reductive potential of free radicals generated at
the point of contamination.
The basis of this technology is the formation of a stable
complex ion that converts to free radicals in the presence of
organic matter.
The effectiveness of OxB Biocide places it in the most demanding biocide category, i.e. a sporicide and sterilant. In addition, it acts as a fast-acting sanitizer and disinfectant, in the less demanding applications against a broad spectrum of microorganisms.
Microorganisms are unlikely to develop resistance to OxB
Biocides. This is due to the release of singlet oxygen and
reactive oxygen species from the complex.
Given the mode of action, this biocide should be active
against all microbial forms. Application may be by immersion, wipe-on
and spray. It has been shown to be effective across a temperature range
of 4 to 100 degrees C.
The technology is a significant advance over conventional biocide
technologies in that it delivers effective performance, is a clear, colorless, odorless liquid, is toxicologically safe to those who handle and apply it,. Remarkably, it kills the most difficult forms of microorganisms, including vegatative and spore forms in shorter times than required by conventional biocides.
The product is effective against bioterrorism agents such as
anthrax in the spore form. The current recommendation for anthrax spore simulant
disinfection is 15 % bleach for an hour, or use of
glutaraldehyde or formaldehyde. OxB is shown to achieve the
same results in a minute or less on simulants.
OxB Biocide passes the AOAC Sporicidal Test 966.04 (2004) for
Bacillus subtilis in 30 minutes, at pH 7, at 20 degrees C and in 60
minutes, pH 10.8. br>
Test results indicate that OxB Biocide is capable of penetrating thick biofilms, killing imbedded
microorganisms and removing organic contaminants (i.e.
proteins, carbohydrates and nucleic acids).
